This past Saturday and Sunday we went to an 'umu (stone oven in the ground) bbq at a Samoan farm. The Samoan family that hosted was very nice and taught us many things about the fa'a Samoa (traditional customs).
Searching for Taro.
Got one!
You have to pick the Taro and then pull off all but three of the leaves in the middle. Then they use only the middle leaf to wrap around shredded coconut and cook in the 'umu. This is a picture of the village chief popping off Taro with a machete.
Coconut stick which is used to open then the shredder to get the meat out.
