Big News!

We have unofficial orders to DC! (Finally) The reason I haven't posted anything for a while is we have been spending all our time researching the three states that comprise the DC metro area, finding a rental, and most importantly finding a good public school for Gavin. Which was no easy task.

We finally found a promising rental in-boundary for a great elementary school in the Fort Hunt area of Alexandria, VA. Trevor's co worker with kids lives in the area and checked it out for us and then my mom and Gary graciously went up on a moments notice to check it out. Everyone liked it and the price was right so we rented it. I had emailed with one of the presidents of the HOA committee and by complete coincidence my mom and Gary ran into him walking his dogs and stopped him to talk about the neighborhood. He thought it was so great that he had already emailed with me and then he met my parents and they gave him a bottle of the family sauce for being so helpful. :-) I now need to get Gavin registered. He could enter Kindergarten when we get there April 1 because VA cut off is Sept 30th and Gavin's teacher said he is really ready but we decided to do a nature based 5's program at a private school for the two months till summer starts. I figure I have only a limited time left till he is in school more hours than at home awake. :-) It was also time to start registering for summer camps and little league so he's got some fun things to do once we get there.

The new place isn't exactly what we were looking for but it sounds amazing. Its huge (we have lots of room for guests and finally more than one bathroom), a great backyard that backs up to a river, a community pool/playground/tennis courts and 4 bedrooms/3 bathrooms. Were about 15 minutes from Old Town Alexandria which has great shopping and a European feel with cobblestone streets and old architecture. And about same distance to a Metro stop that goes straight into DC.

Front yard

Back yard with nature trail and river.

 Master bedroom with sitting area.

Dining room...and my mom in the kitchen with her broken ankle that's finally on the mend. Gary's taking the picture from the living room.

I'll post more once we get there. The real problem will be furnishing and cleaning this huge place. :-)
